SANTO DOMINGO.- República Dominicana ocupa el quinto lugar entre los países de América Latina y el Caribe con mayores casos de feminicidios en 2017, según la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe (Cepal).
La lista la lidera Brasil con 1.133 víctimas confirmadas, seguido de El Salvador con una tasa de 10,2 casos por cada 100.000 mujeres, y Honduras, con 5,8 casos, Guatemala (2,6) y República Dominicana (1,8) y Chile (0,47).
Los únicos países con tasas inferiores a un feminicidio por cada 100.000 mujeres son Panamá, Perú y Venezuela.
La secretaria ejecutiva de la Cepal, Alicia Bárcena, explicó hoy en Santiago de Chile que “el feminicidio es la expresión más extrema de la violencia contra las mujeres. Ni la tipificación del delito ni su visibilización estadística han sido suficientes para erradicar este flagelo que nos alarma y horroriza cada día”.
Ante la gravedad del fenómeno, 18 países de la región han modificado sus leyes para sancionar este tipo de crimen tipificándolo como feminicidio, femicidio u homicidio agravado por razones de género, entre ellos Costa Rica (2007), Guatemala (2008), Chile y El Salvador (2010); Argentina, México y Nicaragua (2012); Bolivia, Honduras, Panamá y Perú (2013); Ecuador, República Dominicana y Venezuela (2014); Brasil y Colombia (2015); Paraguay (2016) y Uruguay (2017).
“Para abordar esta situación es necesario comprender que todas las formas de violencias que afectan a las mujeres están determinadas, más allá de su condición sexual y de género, por diferencias económicas, de edad, raciales, culturales y religiosas, entre otras”, expresó Bárcena.
“Por este motivo, las políticas públicas para su erradicación deben considerar la diversidad de las mujeres y las variadas características que tiene la violencia contra ellas, concluyó”.
